Category V Hurricane – Duval Wheels

Posted by

Nothing beats a soaking wet slide session, we Floridians we have hurricanes to thank for that. But for the dry days we still have Duval Hurricanes to thank for that “slide forever” feel.

Based out of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Duval Wheels started out producing boards but quickly found their home in the wheel industry. While still a small local company they are expanding rapidly across the nation and overseas.

Hurricanes are their second wheel and slide just how  a wheel with such a small contact patch should, fast. At 65mm, 81a, 30mm contact patch with a slightly offset core gives you one of the most fun experiences going sideways you can imagine. These babies shed little speed and have a quick roll speed allowing you to hold bigger slides even on your smallest hills. For fast freeride they are flat out icy (think classic Krypto slide) but if you like to go sideways further than your friends, these are the wheels for you.

My only complaint about Hurricanes is that by starting at 65mm they wear fast. Even though they come with a smaller core to give them more life, it is entirely possible to core them in a day of hard riding.

Unlike some other soft urethane wheels these are not prone to develop large flat spots and as a result of the small contact patch, they are tough to cone. Slap them on your favorite freeride setup or on your double kick for some gnarly soft wheel action.

If you’re looking to pick some up, along with some of the other great Duval wheels (Killawats, Los Toros and the soon to be released Solares) hit up their website at http://duvalboards.com/ Pricing is starting at $37 a set or two sets for $64.
